As Metro Halifax reported yesterday, Gretchen Wilson will be among the acts opening for Keith Urban at the Country Rocks 2008 concert on Halifax Common this summer.

Power Promotional Events’ Harold MacKay confirmed yesterday he is bringing the singer to the city for the Aug. 30 event.

“I think it is tremendous, because Gretchen is a hard rocking lady,” said MacKay.

“The whole theme is that we want this to be a country rock show, and she knows how to rock.” Also added to the outdoor concert’s roster yesterday were Great Big Sea, Jimmy Rankin, and local singer Marc Cameron. They join a list of performers for the 10 hour show that also includes Charlie Major, Johnny Reid, and Aaron Pritchett.

It was also announced there will be a special area for students at the back of the common, where large video monitors will be set up, and tickets will be offered at a reduced cost of $69.

Early bird tickets to the show are $89, with limited VIP seating at $219.
