Valentine’s memorial march to honour missing women

More than 200 people are expected to attend Calgary’s second annual Valentine’s Day Women’s Memorial March, which will be held Sunday to honour the murdered and missing women of Southern Alberta.

The march began 19 years ago in Vancouver to pay homage to women who have died as a result of violence or abuse. Marchers across the country will participate, carrying placards of women who have been murdered or are missing.

“We’re really trying to drive home that this is not only a women’s issue, it’s also a men’s issue,” said Suzanne Dsuz, founder of Women’s Memorial March Calgary.

“It’s important that men start taking responsibility for what is happening to these women and start calling their peers on this behaviour.”

The march will begin at Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Ave. SW) at 1:30 p.m.
