Vancouver defeats Edmonton 3-2

EDMONTON – Anthony Ast scored the winning goal early in the third period as the Vancouver Giants defeated the host Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Brendan Gallagher and Cain Franson each had a goal for the Giants (29-19-3), who won for the first time in three outings, while Riley Kieser chipped in with two assists.

Curtis Lazar and Kristians Pelss had a goal apiece for the Oil Kings (33-12-6), who lost in regulation for the first time in six games.

Adam Morrison made 28 saves for the win while Laurent Brossoit turned aside 21 shots in defeat.

Vancouver went 0 for 2 on the power play as Edmonton failed to score on three opportunities with the man advantage.
