Vancouver doing its best New Jersey

If Halloween costumes are any clue as to what Vancouverites watch on TV, it would appear we like reality shows and train wrecks.

“Jersey Man” and “Jersey Girl” wigs — ostensibly for The Situation and Snooki costumes — are a hot commodity this season, according to Debra Pearson, Value Village Coquitlam’s Halloween co-ordinator.

Last year, it was Kate Gosselin wigs, Michael Jackson outfits and balloon boy costumes that were flying off shelves.

Pearson also said costumes that reflect the ’50s style — like the Pink Ladies from Grease – are popular this year, as well as Twilight characters.

“Men still want to be pirates,” she said, adding the Pirates Of The Caribbean hype is still going strong.

Little boys are asking to be Avatar characters, while little girls are abandoning the traditional princess and fairy costumes for spookier outfits like dead brides.

“I love helping people with their costumes,” Pearson said. “It’s like a scavenger hunt, it’s fun.”
