Among the many changes OC Transpo is preparing for the start of the school year, one could affect where riders buy their tickets.
OC Transpo is asking ticket vendors to pay for tickets up front, rather than sell them on consignment and retrieve the money later.
Helen Gault, manager of transit service planning and development, said OC Transpo made the adjustment to reduce the debt it carries for outstanding tickets. She said the actual losses are small, but OC Transpo was assuming too much risk in the venture.
Several vendors have expressed reservations over the new policy since it places all the risk on them with very little in return.
