Vertically-challenged actors and their towering leading ladies

In honour of Knight and Day, we look at other films where vertically-challenged guys have landed statuesque leading ladies. Tom Cruise, you’re a pro.

The film: Top Gun (1986)
The couple: Tom Cruise (5’7”) and Kelly McGillis (5’10”)

Not only does Tom Cruise seem to wear generously heeled shoes, but he goes by Maverick in this one — can’t nobody hold him down.

The film: Gattaca (1997)
The couple: Ethan Hawke (5’10”) and Uma Thurman (6’0”)

Ethan Hawke is, well, Ethan Hawke — plus he bought Jude Law’s DNA in this sci-fi flick. The co-stars married after the film (although, they later divorced).

The film: There’s Something About Mary (1998)
The couple: Ben Stiller (5’6”) and Cameron Diaz (5’9”)

The three inches between them only adds to the “Why is this supermodel talking to Ben Stiller in braces?” dynamic.

The film: Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
The couple: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (5’11”)

These two were married. And in 2006, Cruise walked down the aisle with another who would tower over him in red carpet heels — Katie Holmes, 5’9”.

The film: Keeping the Faith (2000)
The couple: Ben Stiller and Jenna Elfman (5’10”)

It’s a weird duo, for sure — but in the end, we think Stiller’s rabbi is a more-likely, less-creepy match than Edward Norton’s priest.
