Halifax Regional Police released the name of the city’s most recent murder victim yesterday.

Ryan Matthew White, a 21-year-old from Halifax, was discovered on Jarvis Lane in the city’s north end with a gunshot wound to the chest late Thursday night.

He was rushed to hospital, but died of his injuries Friday.

According to his obituary, White was a graduate of the Second Chance Program and the father of three daughters.

Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said the investigation is ongoing but there are no suspects in custody.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, it suggests that this was not a random act and it was likely the result of a dispute over something, but what that is, we’re not quite sure yet.”

He added the victim was known to police.

This is the sixth murder of the year for the HRM. Charges have been laid in four of these cases.
