Victim recovering after being shot in home invasion

A 48-year-old Halifax man is recovering in hospital after police say he was shot early yesterday after two men forced their way into his home.

Halifax Regional Police say at 4:15 a.m., a relative of the victim called 911 in regards to a shooting inside a house in the 3,400 block of Mic Mac Street, which is off Connaught Avenue.

When police arrived, they say they found the victim with a single gunshot wound, and he was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the man’s wife and adult children were also inside the home sleeping, but it’s unclear if they witnessed the shooting.

Sgt. Nancy Rudback of HRP said investigators spoke with the victim yesterday afternoon and were told two men forced their way into the home, then fled the scene after the shooting.

It was police’s first interview with the victim and it’s still not known if he knew the suspects.

The only description police have of a possible suspect is a man wearing a hoodie and maybe leaving the scene.

A neighbour, who wouldn’t give her name, told Metro yesterday she heard loud shouting from the home in the early morning hours, and then shortly later, police arrived. She didn’t hear a gunshot.

Another woman told Metro the neighbourhood was home to a shooting a couple of years ago, but it’s been a quiet place to live the last couple of years.
