On Feb. 2, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks will square off in Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This year, Bruno Mars will be the headlining performer during the halftime show, with a guest appearance by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Less a time for bathroom breaks and beer runs than an event in itself, the halftime show will be watched by millions of fans across the country and around the world. Each year, some of the world’s biggest stars take the stage to perform during America’s biggest sporting event.

There have been many memorable performances, including the famous “wardrobe malfunction” when Justin Timberlake ripped Janet Jackson’s top during their duet at Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004), and U2’s set honoring the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks at Super Bowl XXXVI (2002).
