A few New York City subway riders were treated to a slice of homemade cake earlier this month after a woman frosted, decorated and cut the cake all while sitting on the crowded train.
Bettina Banayan, a performer and culinary student, frosted an entire cake on her lap as fellow passengers stared at her. They had no idea what was going on until she finally said aloud, "Does anybody want cake?"
She cut the cake and served the slices on paper plates to strangers.

"New Yorkers aren't very personable with each other," Banayan explained. "We're constantly in people's private space, especially on the subway. I think it's important to have some kind of community."
