Cable TV operator Videotron, which is setting up a wireless phone network, has negotiated a deal with Rogers Communications so Videotron can roam exclusively on the Rogers network in Canada.

The deal, announced yesterday, will help provide future Videotron wireless customers outside the Quebec company’s coverage area access to a national wireless network so they can make cellphone calls from anywhere in Canada.

Separately, Videotron agreed with Rogers on tower sharing arrangements for certain cellular sites in Quebec and the Ottawa region.

“This is great news for our customers and for us,” said Robert Depatie, president and CEO of Videotron, a unit of Quebecor Media.

“At the same time, we appreciate the openness and collaborative spirit of Rogers with whom we hope to continue to develop a lasting business relationship.
