Vintage Wings open house taking off with astronaut

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, who was recently chosen to take command of the International Space Station in 2013, will touch down at the Vintage Wings of Canada Open House and Air Show this Saturday.

Hadfield, who pilots Vintage Wings’ F-86 Sabre, will arrive at the Executive Gatineau-Ottawa Airport at around noon.

This is the fifth year that Vintage Wings has hosted an open house at the airport in Gatineau.

Activities will celebrate three Victoria Cross recipients from the Second World War.

The event will feature the Avro Lancaster, a type flown by VC winner Andrew Mynarski, the Consolidated Vickers PBY 5A Canso, a type flown by winner David Hornell, and the Goodyear FG-1D Corsair flown by Robert Hampton Gray.

Flying begins shortly after 10 a.m.
