Violent riots broke out in the stands at a soccer game in Joinsville, Brazil, between teams Atletico Paranaense and Vasco da Gama. The game was stopped as fans brawled in the stands on Sunday, reports Globoesporte.com.

Fans punched and kicked each other in the stands and even stomped on each other's head, according to Globoesporte.com. Police were slow to step in, only restraining the rioters after a few minutes. Soccer players walked up to the stands, begging fans to end the violence. The game resumed after about an hour.

Four people were sent to a local hospital; one man sustained head trauma and will need a CT scan. None of the patients are in a coma or at risk of dying. Three of the patients remain in the hospital, while one was released.
