More than 25,000 spectators and 10,000 participants are expected to attend the 28th annual HOPE Volleyball SummerFest, held at Mooney’s Bay Saturday.
Although rain is forecasted for Friday, none is forecasted for the day of the event, meaning an “event tradition” may be broken this year.
“It’s rained every year for the last 10 years,” said executive director Holly Tarrison. “But people are pretty good. The participants and volunteers will stay through anything.”
This year, 1,025 teams will be playing to raise money for five charities, including the CHEO Foundation, the Ottawa Humane Society, Operation Come Home, Camp Quality–Eastern Region, and the Shepherds of Good Hope. The money will be going towards specific programs, Tarrison said.
“When there’s a face to where the money is going, it kind of excites people to give more, she said.
