Voltigeurs closing in on first Q championship

The Drummondville Voltigeurs are a win away from their first QMJHL President Cup.

The Voltigeurs hammered the host Shawinigan Cataractes 9-2 last night to grab a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven final. Yannick Riendeau had two goals and three assists to give him a league-leading 47 points in 16 games.

Sean Couturier and Spencer Mahbod chipped in with four-point efforts on a goal and three assists apiece.

The high-powered Volts now have 104 goals in 16 playoff games, an average of almost seven goals per game. They’ve scored 46 times on the power play.

The series resumes Friday in Drummondville.
