Volunteer Ottawa wants youth to lend a hand

The holidays are usually the ideal time to recruit volunteers to help out in their communities. But for Volunteer Ottawa, getting youth to volunteer around this time is easier said than done.

“We don’t see an increase in youth volunteers during (the holidays), but we would like to see more youth around Christmastime,” said executive director Will Coukell.

Later this week, Volunteer Ottawa will launch a new program to encourage youth to volunteer and get more involved with local organizations.

One organization that would like to see more young adult volunteers is the Home Instead Senior Care’s Be a Santa to a Senior campaign.

The campaign delivers Christmas gifts to seniors who have no family or are alone.
