Man charged with abuse of teen
A 39-year-old Vancouver man has been charged with sexual exploitation after allegedly passing himself off as a pastor and abusing a 16-year-old boy, police said yesterday.
Police said that Jacinto Ramos Fernandez, who also goes by the nickname Jojo, groomed the teen at a Vancouver church, though the alleged offences occurred in Burnaby in October.
"Mr. Fernandez was able to immerse himself in a local Vancouver church, garner the trust of the community and is alleged obviously to have betrayed that trust," said Const. Tim Fanning.

Fernandez came to Vancouver from the Philippines 18 months ago. He is married and has no kids.
In an interview with police, Fernandez said he had visited several churches in Vancouver, though it is not known how involved with them he was. Fanning said that there is a possibility of there being more victims.
Police are not releasing any additional details because of the victim’s age but hope that anyone who recognizes Fernandez will come forward with information about him.
Fernandez has no previous criminal records. He was charged on Jan. 28 and released on bail until his next court appearance on Feb. 19.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-3473.
