VRTUCAR, Communauto and Via Rail anounce partnership

It’s important to develop sustainable transportation options for people in Ottawa, said the president of a local car-sharing service Thursday.

VRTUCAR’s Wilson Wood, Quebec’s Communauto and Via Rail announced a partnership that will make travelling to Montreal less of a hassle for people living in Ottawa.

The service will allow Ottawa travellers to book a train ride and a car for trips to Montreal and vice versa.

“Think of a cab ride up to Kanata from (the Tremblay Road station). If you’re using taxis to get around that area it might be pretty expensive,” said Via chief marketing and sales officer, Steve del Bosco.

Starting Friday, visitors to Via Rail’s website can book a return train ticket and a car for 24 hours for a promotional price of $79 until the end of March.

After the program first launched in Quebec City and Montreal, del Bosco said he got calls from people in Ottawa asking when it would launch here.

“We got great feedback,” he said.
