Vt.’s long-closed Haystack ski area reopens

WILMINGTON, Vt. – A long-closed Vermont ski area is operating again and in the process of becoming a members-only resort.

Hundreds of people were at the Haystack Mountain resort in Wilmington when it opened on Saturday for free skiing and riding.

Vice-president Bob Rubin and his partner have combined the ski area with the Hermitage Inn, which will serve as the base lodge at Haystack this season.

Rubin says members of the Haystack Club will have nearly exclusive access to 400 hectares of Haystack property, including the Haystack Golf Club, Hermitage Inn, and the ski area.

He tells the Brattleboro Reformer (http://bit.ly/zDQR8W ) “it’s a four-season escape.”

A family membership starts at $20,000 and the price can go as high as $1 million.
