Wage advocate runs for council

Nadia Willard, one of the leading advocates for the living wage campaign in Ottawa, has registered to run for council in River Ward.

A retired nurse who served on the Saskatchewan Human Rights Committee and the Gabriel Springs Heath District Board, Willard also ran as a member of the Saskatchewan NDP in the province’s 1999 election before moving to Ottawa.

Willard said the city needs to examine the services it should offer and ways, other than tax or fee increases, to fund those services.

The ward’s current councillor, Maria McRae, is not registered but is expected to run. Michael Kostiuk is already registered.
