Walkin’, waggin’ and raisin’ money

Dogs of all breeds, and of course their owners, took part in the first annual Walk n’ Wag, held yesterday by Calgary’s Animal Rescue Foundation.

Roughly 100 Calgarians raised money and walked through River Park with their pups.

The event was a fundraiser for ARF’s Pad of Paws campaign, which is an ongoing fundraising initiative that aims to eventually build a permanent location for the foundation.

“We want to have a place where we can actually bring (animals) in, take care of them, (and) give them all their medical care,” said Julie Felber, the campaign’s chairwoman.

One of the event organizers, Jane Robarts said they nearly doubled their goal of $10,000.

“We’re very excited to have surpassed that goal,” she said, adding that the foundation hopes to raise awareness as well as funds.

Robarts said that, in light of the success of the first Walk n’ Wag, she hopes to continue the event every year.

“Going forward, we want to make sure this is an event that people come to every year. It’s something that we want people to look forward to.”
