Wall collapses, wrecks bakery

A cinder-block wall fell onto a Langley bakery late Saturday night, destroying it and seriously damaging two buildings next door, said Langley RCMP.

Police responded to a report of an explosion around 11:50 p.m. at 204th and Douglas Crescent. RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said police found no evidence of an explosion, and they suspect the sound was created by the impact of the falling wall.

“The bakery is pretty much destroyed because the wall fell right down the centre of it,” said Marks.

Langley RCMP do not suspect criminal activity, said Marks. It will now be up to structural engineers to find out why the wall fell, and up to the shop’s insurance company to determine the cost of the damages.

Police held the scene overnight to protect the owners’ property. Nobody was injured in the collapse.
