Ward’s three goals lead Minnesota Swarm to 11-4 victory over Toronto Rock

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Ryan Ward recorded three goals and added an assist for Minnesota to lead the Swarm to a 11-4 victory over the Toronto Rock on Saturday.

It was Minnesota’s second win over the Rock in as many nights, after opening their season Friday with a 17-16 overtime win.

Dean Hill and Sean Pollock also scored twice for Minnesota. Andy Secore had four assists for the Swarm, Chad Culp contributed three in addition to his third-quarter goal. Justin Norbraten also had three assists, while Dean Hill had two.

Jim Veltman had two unassisted goals for Toronto – and as many penalties – in a game that intensified in the fourth quarter with multiple players being called for unsportsmanlike conduct. Scott Campbell and Dan Ladouceur of the Rock were each penalized twice in the fourth.

Not to be outmatched, Minnesota’s Ryan Cousins and Travis Hill were also both called twice in the final quarter for their unsportsmanlike behaviour.

There were four power-play goals in the second, third and fourth quarters. Aaron Wilson scored the first for Toronto on assists by Josh Sanderson and Ryan Benesch, but the remaining three were Minnesota’s. Hill and Craig Point both scored on power plays for the Swarm.
