The warm weather may be a relief for winter weary Ottawans, but has wreaked havoc with the Rideau Canal Skateway.
The National Capital Commission is temporarily closing the canal at midnight Monday night, due to the forecast of rain and freezing rain.
The temporary closure will help minimize damage to the ice surface, the NCC ice safety committee said Monday. This precautionary measure also enables the NCC to reopen the skateway as soon as possible.
Skaters and the general public are asked keep off the ice.
