Warrant issued for murder suspect

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a man wanted in connection with the city’s 14th homicide.

Police issued the warrant after they were called to a private party at the Penbrooke Meadows Community Association at 6100 Penbrooke Dr. SE for a weapons complaint around 2:30 a.m. Monday. When police arrived they learned the victim had been taken to hospital with serious wounds. The victim died later in hospital.

Alston George Smith, 37, a Jamaican national who was DJ’ing at a dominoes tournament Saturday night was identified by police as the victim. Smith was a popular DJ on the Calgary Jamaican scene.

Police believe the suspect, Orlando Lorenzo Nembhard, 24, of no fixed address, who is wanted on a second-degree murder warrant, also goes by the aliases of “Rama” and “Four Years.” He is described as a black male, 5-10 tall, 130 pounds, with a skinny build. He has black hair and brown eyes.
