Ridding tomatoes of surface Salmonella is simple.
“Wash ‘em,” said Mark Richard, spokesman for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Over the past week, a number of Canadian and American food chains including McDonald’s, Tim Hortons and KFC have taken tomatoes off their menus as a precaution in response to an outbreak of illnesses in the U.S. caused by Salmonella Saintpaul.
Richard said the bacteria hasn’t been linked to tomatoes shipped to Canada as of yet, but the CFIA is closely monitoring the situation south of the border.
