Dianne Watts will not seek the leadership of the B.C. Liberal Party, the popular Surrey mayor announced last night.
In a release, Watts pre-emptively pulled herself from the race to replace outgoing Premier Gordon Campbell, who announced two weeks ago that he was stepping aside.
She said her decision came after careful deliberation and consultation with family. Among the four reasons she listed for not running is the polarized political landscape in Victoria and Ottawa.
“I am also deeply frustrated,” said Watts, “at the bitterness that is so often directed at those who seek or serve in public office.”
