Wear your lucky jersey to this play

Sports fan can have some interesting superstitions, playwright Linda Wood Edwards notes.

“When their team starts to lose, fans think it’s because of something that they’re doing:

Whether it’s eating the wrong snacks or wearing the wrong jerseys or because somebody’s not there watching the game with them,” Edwards chuckles.

This observation inspired Woods to write True Grid, a comedic play which follows a group of fans in the stands of Commonwealth Stadium as the Edmonton Eskimos vie for a playoff spot.

True Grid actually debuted at the 2007 Edmonton Fringe Festival, where it received critical praise.

“With the Grey Cup being in Edmonton this year we thought we’d bring it back,” Edwards continues, adding that she’s managed to reunite the original 2007 director and cast for this year’s remount.

Edwards hopes to donate some of the proceeds of the show to the CFL Alumni Association’s Dire Needs Fund.

True Grid will be playing at the Stanley A. Milner Library Theatre from Nov. 24 to 26.

Tickets are $18 each and are now available for purchase from Tix On the Square.
