Wind and snow caused more than a dozen accidents around the province over the weekend.

Police said icy road conditions caused a serious head-on collision on Highway 103 near Tantallon on Saturday night.

A truck, carrying two people, collided with a car carrying four people.

The driver of the car was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extracted by fire officials.

The three other people were taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

A section of the highway was closed as crews salted the road and the crash was cleaned up.

In Cape Breton, snowplows and salt trucks were deployed over the weekend as the conditions worsened, but in a span of a couple of hours police responded to 17 separate motor vehicle accidents.
