Weird news roundup: Lost in the woods

LSD, BBQs and a whole host of other words that are not acronyms.

It's time for another edition of your weird news roundup. This is Generation Beta.

Couple on LSD gets lost in the woods

A young couple is facing drug charges after being rescued from the woods by police.

Officers say they began their two-hour search after receiving a call from 20-year-old Amanda Norcia, who said she was high, lost in the woods and her boyfriend bit her in the face.

Police allege both she and 24-year-old Brendan Gibson were high on heroin, LSD and possibly other drugs.

According to the Lawrence Eagle Tribune, Gibson was taken to the hospital after being found naked and covered in his own feces. Norcia was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The two got lost in dense woods along the Shawsheen River early Thursday morning.

Tewksbury and State Police assisted Andover Police in their search for the couple.

For rent: One backyard

“The grass is greener on the other side” has a very special meaning to most New Yorkers, who dream of green space the way Joe Six Pack dreams of a crisp American beer.

But those dreams can be reality, if only for a few hours.

For $100 dollars an hour, New Yorkers can rent a backyard. A time share yard! It’s on Ludlow Street, sandwiched between two East Village apartments.

The NY Daily News interviewed Corbin Cavallero, who had a strong opinion about the space.

“It’s strange. I mean, how could it not be? I’ve never had a backyard with, like, street art on the walls.” But that didn’t stop him from attending a backyard BBQ.

The owners of the space say it jumped overnight from a few dozen requests to thousands per week.

The place comes with all the backyard essentials you could want or need, including a charcoal grill, plastic coolers, lounge chairs, pink plastic lawn flamingos and hula hoops.

A perk: it’s open to the public for free every Friday afternoon.

Scranton Man dials 911 during drug deal

A northeastern Pennsylvania man is facing charges after accidentally calling 911 during a drug deal….and police recorded the whole thing.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton says officers then went to the home of 24-year-old Justin Kryzanowski, where they found syringes filled with Suboxone and various prescription drugs, and the cell phone used to call 911.

Cambodian PM’s personal best: 5 hours, 20 minutes

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is not only Asia’s longest serving ruler — he’s also the continent’s lengthiest speaker.

His debilitatingly long speech about border disputes with Vietnam was mandatory viewing for civil servants, and the 61-year-old leader took no breaks, and no questions. One can only hope the civil servants used the loo before the speech began.

A government spokesman says the speech was the PM’s longest in 27 years of leadership, but it comes nowhere close to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’ nine hour state-of-the-nation speech in January.

7-year-old 'wants to do hood rat things' with his friends

This is not a new video, but it never gets old.

I won’t get too far into social commentary, because that will make lines like "I wanna do it 'cause it's fun, it's fun to do bad things, and drive into a car" sad instead of funny.

Without further ado…
