Want a place to get together? How about The Commune Café?

It opened last weekend and is already drawing in the neighbourhood.

With its clean, slick cafeteria-style dining room, Commune keeps it simple. There’s a reasonable variety of sandwiches on the menu board with salads, share plates and some breakfast favourites.

Ingredients are advertised as locally sourced and organic. In addition, the flavours are fantastic.

My Portobello, arugula and goat’s cheese sandwich ($8) comes in a hearty whole grain bread. It’s perfectly toasted and the sweetness of the portobellos matches beautifully with the salty goat’s cheese.

Sandwiches don’t come with sides. So go with a friend and share the excellent daily cheese & moccias butcher block ($12).

My dining companion and I happily ate through the delicious selection of brie, fig and red wine salamis, cornichons, candied walnuts and other savory treats.
