Which way do we go from here?

With the newest LRT expansion to Century Park almost complete, Edmontonians might be wondering what’s next on the horizon for our rapid transit system.

In terms of the city’s overall scheme of things, the next LRT project on track construction is the north LRT to NAIT.

“Beyond that city council identified as priorities the west and southeast LRTs to be built next,” said Graeme McElheran, the communications officer responsible for LRT Design and Construction.

That’s good news for University of Alberta student Hao Guo, who would like to see a West Edmonton LRT station, while Hasnain Khan is keen on LRT expansion to the Millwoods area and also to Riverbend, although he isn’t a fan of the above-ground systems.

“Where we are right now with the North LRT to NAIT is in the design and preparing for construction,” said McElheran. “105th Street is not going to be the same again. Eventually there’s going to be an LRT running down the middle of that road.”

The projected destinations of the service are posted on the city’s website at
