The price of hotel rooms in Whistler fell the most out of any Canadian destination in the first half of 2009.

The resort municipality saw a 27 per cent drop in prices compared to the same period last year, according to the first Canadian Hotel Price Index released yesterday.

Despite the drop, Whistler still has the fifth most expensive hotel rooms in the country, with prices averaging $173 and $182 per night. Lake Louise topped the list at $228 per night. The index by hotels.ca tracks the real prices paid per hotel room rather than advertised rates.

In Vancouver, the average hotel room cost $144 per night, a 10 per cent drop from the same period in 2008.
