Whitecaps get kitted out in new uniform designs

Capitalizing on the worldwide swell of soccer-love on the eve of the 2010 World Cup, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC unveiled the new “kit” that they will wear when they take to the pitch in their inaugural season in Major League Soccer next year.

Men’s team captain Martin Nash and women’s team striker Kara Lang showed off the new uniforms at Bell Canada’s office in Vancouver Thursday. Bell was unveiled as the premier founding and shirt sponsor.

The undisclosed multi-year deal includes a mobile content agreement that will give the ability to, among other things, broadcast Whitecaps games on Bell smart phones.

The mobile provider will also donate $100,000 per year to the Whitecaps Foundation. The two organizations will additionally establish a “sport innovation council.”

The primary kit is all white, with horizontal navy stripes and the word Bell, written across the chest. The new Whitecaps logo, which was unveiled on Tuesday, sits high on the left side of the chest. The triple Adidas stripe runs across the shoulders and down both long-sleeves, interrupted at the elbow by a Canadian flag.

The secondary kit is the deep navy blue of the new logo. It is short sleeved or long sleeved and lacks the horizontal stripes across the chest.
