As people turn off their lights all over the city for Earth Hour this Saturday, the U of C’s Rothney Astrophysical Observatory will find out how it affects our planet.
They will be studying the change in sky glow and will demonstrate how light pollution reduces the ability to see stars.
RAO director Phil Langill says light pollution has become a serious problem for the observatory.
“The brighter the sky over the RAO becomes, the fewer of the faint interesting objects in the universe we will be able to study,” he said.
