WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Kyle Wellwood to a US$700,000, one-year contract.

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Kyle Wellwood to a US$700,000, one-year contract.

He had 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 35 games for the San Jose Sharks last season. Wellwood added seven points (1-6) in 18 playoff games.

The 28-year-old Windsor, Ont., native also spent part of the season with Mytishchi Atlant of the KHL.

Over six NHL seasons with San Jose, Vancouver and Toronto, Wellwood has recorded 173 points (68-105) in 373 games played. He has 20 career playoff points over 40 games.

Wellwood was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round (134th overall) of the 2001 NHL entry draft.
