Winter festival ends for this year

Use Volunteers will spend the next month and a half taking down 500 giant Christmas displays at Hawrelak Park, say organizers behind the annual Bright Nights Family Winter Festival.

The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce’s festival was a success, but the cold weather kept many people away from the event during the Christmas holidays, said Liz Tweddle, manager of community development with the chamber of commerce.

“When it was extremely cold, the event was challenging,” said Tweddle.

Tweddle said the event was still a will benefit many Edmontonians in need, despite the cold, since many donated food items and cash to Edmonton’s Food Bank and admission to the festival will help pay for lunch programs at a number of schools across the city.

A final tally on the donations has not yet been made.
