Woman charged in ’08 murder

A Vancouver woman was charged yesterday with first-degree murder in the March 2008 death of a physically disabled man in his East Vancouver apartment.

Marlene Anna Grenier, 31, was arrested Sunday in connection with the murder of Enrique (Rick) Manuel Marques at his home in the 2200 block of East 30th Avenue.

“(The arrest) reopens the wounds that the family felt at the time,” said Insp. Mike Porteous.

“But they were pleased, for sure.”

Porteous said the investigation into the man’s death was “arduous and extensive” and involved dozens of officers.

He refused to give specific details other than to say Marques and the accused were “acquaintances.”

“In this case we identified the suspect early on, but it took this amount of time to gather enough evidence to meet the charge approval threshold for murder.”

Marques, who was in his mid-40s, apparently had difficulty walking, which stemmed from a motorcycle accident in 1987.
