A seven-months pregnant Mississauga woman has been charged with second-degree murder after a man was fatally stabbed at her baby shower.
The woman’s common-law husband has also been arrested, accused of being an accessory after the fact to murder.
Investigators were initially told the victim’s wound was self-inflicted. A 9-1-1 call came in to Peel police at 3:19 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived two minutes later they found Jay Kumar Atha bleeding from the chest. Atha, 21, later died in hospital.
Barbara Lanthier, 28, is charged with second-degree murder and Faisal Malik, 38, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Both appeared in court yesterday morning and remain in custody.
