Woman fined in southern Alberta court after puppies dumped in outhouse

PINCHER CREEK, Alta. – A woman has been fined $2,500 for her part in the dumping of five black lab puppies down an outhouse near the Crowsnest Pass in January 2008.

Police learned of the incident after they received a 911 call from a motorist who stopped at the outhouse and heard the puppies crying at the bottom of the hole.

Samantha Rieberger, the owner of the dogs, was sentenced Monday in a court in Pincher Creek, Alta., and fined $500 per puppy on charges of causing distress to animals.

Last January, Frederick Hoath, 57, of Fernie, B.C., was found guilty of animal cruelty in the same incident and fined $1,000 for each puppy.
