Woman groped near SkyTrain station

Vancouver Police are warning women to be more aware of their surroundings after a 27-year-old was sexually assaulted just before midnight near Rupert SkyTrain station.

The victim was walking north from the station on Friday night when she was approached by a man who grabbed her from behind, said Const. Lindsey Houghton.

“As the woman screamed for help (the man) began to touch her buttocks and groin, then ran north on Rupert Street,” Houghton said.

He added that women should try to remain aware of their surroundings and to stay in well-lit areas when walking alone at night.

“Listening to music may impair your ability to perceive what’s going on around you,” he said. “Arrange for someone to pick you up in a vehicle or walk with you.”

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call police at 604-717-2611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
