Edmonton police are investigating the city’s 24th homicide of 2010.
Police responded to a request to check on the welfare of a resident just before 4 p.m. Monday.
A body was found inside a home near 108 Avenue and 52 Street, police said.
EPS spokesperson Lisa Sobchyshyn said initial reports indicate the victim was a woman in her 40s, but her identity will be withheld pending an autopsy.
Investigators canvassed the neighbourhood and spoke to residents yesterday morning in a hunt for clues.
Area resident Len Belcourt believes the woman was living alone and was surprised to hear of the incident.
“Nope, never heard a thing, never saw a thing ... the police were going back and forth ... they came and asked us some questions,” he said outside his home.
Anyone with information is asked contact the complaints line at 780-423-4567.
There were 25 homicides at this time last year.
