Woman pleads guilty to tossing baby

A 20-year-old Richmond woman has pleaded guilty to throwing her baby’s body into a dumpster before the newborn’s remains were found in a landfill.

A 20-year-old Richmond woman has pleaded guilty to throwing her baby’s body into a dumpster before the newborn’s remains were found in a landfill.

The woman admitted to improperly disposing of a body, but because of a publication ban the media can’t report any details released in court yesterday, except that the woman will be sentenced in March.

But the background is known.

In January, police said the woman gave birth to a full-term baby boy without telling anyone, including her boyfriend, that she had been pregnant.

They said she had told her boyfriend she’d had a miscarriage and the two of them wrapped the dead baby in a towel and placed it in a garbage bag before throwing it in a dumpster.

By the time police learned of the baby’s death, the contents of the dumpster had been taken to a landfill in Delta, where a team of 35 officers searched for several days before finding the remains.
