The new Woodlawn Library is going to be overdue on its opening date.
Scheduled to open on Feb. 27, the new 17,000-square-foot facility located on Eisener Boulevard at the former Cineplex building in Dartmouth is now looking at just after Easter to when the doors will open to the public, which would be early April.
Halifax Public Libraries says a delay in the delivery of shelving for the entire library is to blame for the delay.
“We would have opened the new branch had any other piece of furniture been delayed, but shelving is critical. The library just can’t function without it,” Judith Hare, CEO of Halifax Public Libraries, said in a release.
“Unfortunately, the delivery date for the shelving is out of our control.”
Hare added the rest of the construction for the library is proceeding as planned.
Due to the delay, the current location for the library at the Woodlawn Staples Plaza will remain open until the end of March Break.
