The family of a Syncrude worker is mourning the loss of a loved one.
Aman was found unconscious at the company’s Mildred Upgrader Wednesday morning. The man was discovered in a catwalk in the upgrader’s hydro processing area, said Syncrude.
The company says its emergency response team provided immediate attention to the man, who was later taken to a hospital in Fort McMurray where he died.
“This tragedy is especially sad given that it comes at a time of year when we are celebrating with our families and friends,” said Syncrude CEO Tom Katinas in a release.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
Occupational Health and Safety is investigating how the man died. A spokeswoman says the worker may have been struck by a large piece of ice.
Syncrude says counsellors were on scene working with the man’s co-workers to help with their grieving.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
