World-class perks: Olympic helpers claim tickets

Olympic volunteers formed a line that snaked around a city block yesterday to claim their free tickets for the opening ceremonies dress rehearsal.

Aron, who did not give out his last name because volunteers were told not to speak with reporters, was among the thousands waiting to get in to the Olympic Superstore at The Bay where the tickets were given out.

He said he was excited to get an early peek of the opening ceremony.

“It’s a great opportunity to see what the Olympics are going to be like and to see the opening ceremonies and the presentations they are going to show us,” he said.

Yesterday, Metro reported that some volunteers had put their complimentary tickets up for sale on Craigslist, with some asking as much as $300.

Aron said that not only does he plan to use the ticket, he’s also buying an optional ticket for $50 for his girlfriend.

“It’s really ridiculous that people sell them. You should be able to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I don’t think it should be allowed.”
