Would-be muggers chased off by their own targets

Three knife-wielding assailants ran away empty-handed after their victims lashed out during two separate failed robberies Saturday night, Halifax Regional Police say.

The first took place before 9 p.m., when two males approached their victim while he was walking along Summer Street near Spring Garden Road in Halifax, police said.

They demanded he hand over his jewelry, threatening him with a knife, but the male victim instead punched one of the would-be robbers and was able to escape.

The second incident happened when a male Metro Transit passenger got off a bus near Herring Cove Road and Withrod Drive at 11:30 p.m. and was approached by a man, also carrying a knife.

The victim grabbed hold of the knife and, instead of stealing anything, the armed assailant took off without getting any goods. The man sustained some “minor cuts” to his hands, police said.
