Wright joins crowded race for mayor’s seat

The race for mayor is heating up again.

Samuel Wright has entered the race for the big chair, bringing the number of mayoral candidates back up to eight.

The number of candidates running for mayor peaked at nine in late February. Since the start of the year, four people have already withdrawn from the race.

Former provincial minister for Housing and Municipal Affairs Jim Watson and Bay Ward Councillor Alex Cullen are the two most high-profile candidates.

The field is filled out by Mike Maguire, Stanley Pioro, Sean Ryan, Charlie Taylor and poverty activist Jane Scharf.

In council races, Jennifer Robitaille has registered to take on Bob Monette in Orleans.

William McKinnon has become third candidate to enter the fray in College Ward. McKinnon joins John Campbell and Julia Ringma in that race. The current councillor Rick Chiarelli has not registered yet.

The deadline for registration is Sept. 10. Election day is Oct. 25.
