Yogi moves on to worlds

A Victoria yogi contorted her way to first place at a championship held in North Vancouver yesterday.

Ida Ripley and three other winners at the sixth annual Western Canadian Hatha Yoga Championship at Capilano College are eligible to compete at the world championships in Los Angeles this February.

Ripley has come out on top for the five years she has been in the competition.

“The biggest reason I do this competition is to teach myself that anything is possible and that applies to yoga and the rest of my life,” she said.

Brad Colwell, organizer and owner of Bikram’s Yoga Metrotown, was pleased with the turnout.

“The first year it brought out 12 competitors and 20 viewers and obviously this year there are over 20 competitors and 300 plus people, so it has definitely expanded,” he said.
