Police have no suspects in connection to a morning robbery in Yorkville where three paintings worth about $60,000 were stolen yesterday.

A large rock was used to break the front window of Gallery Gevik on Yorkville and Hazelton avenues just after 4 a.m., said Det. James McCormack.

Three abstract paintings by Canadian artist Pierre Gauvreau were stolen from the gallery.

His exhibit had premiered the day before the robbery.

The painting “City in turmoil” is valued at $18,000 while “Ballad for John Wayne” and “Night caught between daylight” are each worth $17,000.

McCormack called the robbery a “crime of opportunity.”

“It’s Yorkville, so there are high-end stores and high-end art galleries that are not immune to these crimes,” he explained.

Investigators are gathering evidence to look for possible suspects.

Anyone with information about the location of these paintings should call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS.
